Our sign kits are for the owner who wants to build. A programmable LED sign is the opposite: it arrives as one finished unit. The LED modules, the power supply and the controller are already inside an aluminum frame, the mounting brackets are in the box, and the wireless keyboard is ready to go. You hang it, plug it into a standard outlet, and type your first message.
Every size is multicolor, with shades of red, green and yellow for text, graphics and animation. Does a programmable LED sign come assembled?
Yes. It is a finished unit, not a kit. The LED modules, power supply and controller are already inside the aluminum frame, the mounting brackets are in the box, and the wireless keyboard is ready to use. You hang it, plug it into a standard outlet and type your first message.
How is this different from the message centers you quote to size?
These are stock sizes that ship fully assembled, which keeps the price down and the lead time short. Our quoted message centers are built to the size and pixel pitch your project needs, usually as part of a larger pole or monument sign. If one of the 18 sizes here fits your spot, this is the faster, simpler way to get a changeable sign on the road.
How many lines of text can it show?
It depends on the height. The 13-inch and 16-inch signs show one line, the 20-inch signs show two, and the 36-inch signs show up to four. Messages can hold still, scroll, flash or rotate through a list, and you can mix fonts, colors and built-in images.
Can I put one on each side of my pole sign?
Yes. Order two units and mount them back to back on the pole or monument. They can be set up to run the same messages so both directions of traffic see the same thing.
Do I need a computer or an internet connection to program it?
No. The wireless keyboard that comes with the sign lets you write and edit messages from a distance, with no computer, app or internet connection required. Computer-based programming is available if you want to build custom graphics.
Will it hold up outdoors?
These signs are built for outdoor use, in an aluminum frame with sealed, weatherproof LED modules, and they run indoors just as well. Mount it where it is readable from the road, keep the power connection protected, and it will run day and night year round.
Do I need a permit for a programmable LED sign?
Usually. Many towns regulate electronic message centers separately from static signs, and rules on brightness, hold time, animation and dwell time are common. The brightness is adjustable and the scrolling can be turned off if your town asks. Check with your local township or zoning office before ordering, and follow all applicable sign, zoning, electrical, permit and inspection requirements.
Do you install programmable LED signs?
No — that is how you save. You or your contractor hang it with the included brackets and plug it in. We recommend a licensed electrician for any hardwired or outdoor circuit, plus project-specific engineering, permits and inspections where required.
