Open the boxes the day they land. Look the sections over even if the cartons look perfect, and do it before install day rather than the morning of. Photograph anything crushed, torn or bent and keep the packaging exactly as it arrived — that is what a carrier claim is built on. Finding a problem the day a box shows up is a phone call; finding it with a crew standing on a ladder is a lost day.
Where to put it. South Florida heat does not bother aluminum, and neither does the salt in the air — it does not rust. The electronics are what need shelter. Keep the LED sections and the power supply inside and off the floor until install day. In a yard where material gets staged outside as a matter of habit, this is the one delivery that should not be.

Your kit is cut to a size, welded, and pre-lit before it ships, so the size has to be right the first time. In Medley that means three phone calls before you order, not after.
1. Ask what you're allowed
Medley is its own municipality inside Miami-Dade County, so start with the Town of Medley rather than assuming the county handles everything. Miami-Dade also runs code functions that touch signs. The towns around you — Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, Doral, Miami Springs — each enforce their own sign rules on their own side of the line. Ask for the maximum sign area and height for your zoning district, whether your sign counts as wall-mounted or freestanding, and what setback applies. 2. Ask your landlord

3. Ask about engineering and wiring
Miami-Dade falls in Florida's High Velocity Hurricane Zone, and that shows up in permitting. A freestanding or pole sign here commonly requires engineered drawings and a footing design signed and sealed by a Florida-licensed engineer, and product approval questions come up more often than they do further north. An illuminated cabinet generally needs an electrical permit of its own. Plan on a licensed electrician for the final hookup and inspection either way.
