How Your Kit Gets To Medley
There is a certain irony in shipping sign kits into a town built on freight, so here is the practical part: roughly 95% of our kits go FedEx Ground, not freight. Your receiving guy does not need to book a dock slot for a sign. The boxes land with the rest of the day's ground packages instead of tying up a bay that has real inbound waiting on it.
What shows up. The cabinet arrives as four long welded sections, or six when splice joints are used to hold a longer frame inside ground shipping limits. LEDs are already mounted inside those sections, and the 12-volt power supply and the mounting hardware are boxed in with them as quoted. One delivery covers the whole kit. Nothing follows behind on a second shipment.
Delivery day. You have a dock. You still do not need it. No pallet, no liftgate, no appointment window and no back-and-forth with a freight carrier over who signs. One person walks the boxes into the shop between other work. For an operation where the forklift is already committed most of the morning, that is the entire point.
Open the boxes the day they land. Look the sections over even if the cartons look perfect, and do it before install day rather than the morning of. Photograph anything crushed, torn or bent and keep the packaging exactly as it arrived — that is what a carrier claim is built on. Finding a problem the day a box shows up is a phone call; finding it with a crew standing on a ladder is a lost day.
Where to put it. South Florida heat does not bother aluminum, and neither does the salt in the air — it does not rust. The electronics are what need shelter. Keep the LED sections and the power supply inside and off the floor until install day. In a yard where material gets staged outside as a matter of habit, this is the one delivery that should not be.

Your kit is cut to a size, welded, and pre-lit before it ships, so the size has to be right the first time. In Medley that means three phone calls before you order, not after.
1. Ask what you're allowed
Medley is its own municipality inside Miami-Dade County, so start with the Town of Medley rather than assuming the county handles everything. Miami-Dade also runs code functions that touch signs. The towns around you — Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, Doral, Miami Springs — each enforce their own sign rules on their own side of the line. Ask for the maximum sign area and height for your zoning district, whether your sign counts as wall-mounted or freestanding, and what setback applies. Sign area is usually tied to your building frontage, so the answer is specific to your address — not to the block or to the business next door.
2. Ask your landlord
If you're in a plaza or center, the landlord's sign criteria sit on top of the city code and are often stricter. Cabinet depth, face color, letter height and mounting method are all commonly spelled out. Get the criteria sheet in writing before you pick a size — it is cheaper than rebuilding a cabinet that the center won't approve.
3. Ask about engineering and wiring
Miami-Dade falls in Florida's High Velocity Hurricane Zone, and that shows up in permitting. A freestanding or pole sign here commonly requires engineered drawings and a footing design signed and sealed by a Florida-licensed engineer, and product approval questions come up more often than they do further north. An illuminated cabinet generally needs an electrical permit of its own. Plan on a licensed electrician for the final hookup and inspection either way. We build the cabinet; the permit, the footing, the disconnect and the sign-off are local work done by local people.

Can you build a sign wide enough to read from Okeechobee Road?
Within reason, yes. The frame is welded to the size you give us, and splice joints let bigger cabinets still ship in boxes rather than on a pallet. There is a point where a cabinet is simply too long to splice down sensibly, and that is one of the few jobs we quote as freight. Tell us the size you have approval for and we will tell you which way it ships.
Does the kit include a face with our company name on it?
No. The standard kit is the welded aluminum cabinet, the mounted LEDs, the power supply and the hardware. Printed faces and graphics are a separate product on our DIY Graphics page. Most industrial customers already have a logo file and a printer they like, and the cabinet is built to whatever face dimension you approve.
Who issues the sign permit in Medley?
Start with the Town of Medley, since Medley runs its own government inside Miami-Dade rather than sitting in unincorporated county. Assume a permit is required for a lighted sign, and assume a separate electrical permit goes with it. Freestanding signs in this part of Florida commonly need sealed engineering as well. Confirm all of it in writing before the cabinet is welded to a size.
Our maintenance guy handles our electrical. Can he hook up the sign?
Not unless he is a licensed electrician pulling the permit. These kits are not UL listed, and the final connection is inspected work in a jurisdiction that inspects. In-house maintenance can absolutely help you mount the cabinet and set the faces — but the feed, the disconnect and the sign-off belong to a licensed electrician.
