How Your Kit Gets To East Hartford

1. Ask what you're allowed
Start with the Town of East Hartford's building department and zoning office. 3. Ask about engineering and wiring

Expect a freestanding or pole sign to need footings and structural drawings, possibly with a licensed engineer's seal, and expect an illuminated cabinet to need its own electrical permit. If your frontage is on a state route, ask whether the state has any say alongside the town. Plan on a licensed electrician for the final hookup and inspection either way. I have my own shop and tools. Is this actually DIY-able?
Yes, and this is the town where that question comes up least. The frame arrives welded and cut to size in sections, the LEDs are already mounted inside, and the hardware is in the same boxes. Do I need a permit for a lighted sign in East Hartford?
Assume you do. Sign permits are generally handled by the Town of East Hartford, and because Connecticut has no county layer, that town office is the one that matters. An illuminated sign commonly needs an electrical permit in addition to the sign permit. Ask what is allowed for your zoning and your frontage, then get the approved size in writing before you order, because the cabinet is welded to it.
Who should do the electrical hookup?
