Open the boxes the day they land. Look the sections over even if the cartons look perfect, and do it before install day rather than the morning of. Photograph anything crushed, torn or bent and keep the packaging exactly as it arrived — that is what a carrier claim is built on. Finding a problem the day a box shows up is a phone call; finding it with a crew standing on a ladder is a lost day.
Where to put it. North Texas will run 100 degrees in August and throw an ice storm at you in January, and aluminum takes both without rusting. The LEDs and the power supply are the parts to protect — store those boxes indoors from day one. Hail season is the other reason not to leave anything sitting in the bed of a truck overnight.

1. Ask what you're allowed
Start with the City of Dallas if your address is inside city limits, and with Dallas County if it is not. 3. Ask about engineering and wiring
A freestanding, monument or pole sign in Dallas generally requires structural and foundation drawings sealed by a Texas-licensed engineer. If your sign sits near a state highway right of way, ask whether any TxDOT rules also apply. Lighting is commonly permitted apart from the sign structure itself, so budget for two reviews rather than one. Plan on a licensed electrician for the final hookup and inspection either way.
