That is the real advantage of a kit that arrives in sections with the LEDs already mounted — the slow, hot part of the job was done in our shop, not on your parking lot in August. How Your Kit Gets To Phoenix
Roughly 95% of our kits ship FedEx Ground rather than freight, and Phoenix is exactly the kind of sprawling metro where that pays off. A shop in Peoria or a suite down in Chandler is a long way from a freight terminal but a normal stop on a ground route. The boxes come to you the same way everything else does.
What shows up. A standard cabinet arrives as four long boxes, six on larger kits where splice joints keep the frame inside ground shipping limits. The sections are welded to your size with the LEDs already inside them, and the power supply and mounting hardware are packed in with the sections. Delivery day. No dock, no liftgate, no delivery appointment to plan a morning around. Most valley small businesses sit in stucco strip centers where the only loading area is the fire lane, and a pallet in the fire lane is a problem. Boxes are not. One person moves them inside in a couple of trips, with no forklift and nobody blocking the lane.
Open the boxes the day they land. Look the sections over even if the cartons look perfect, and do it before install day rather than the morning of. Photograph anything crushed, torn or bent and keep the packaging exactly as it arrived — that is what a carrier claim is built on. Finding a problem the day a box shows up is a phone call; finding it with a crew standing on a ladder is a lost day.
Where to put it. Aluminum handles desert heat and does not rust, which is why the frame can sit in the sun. The LEDs and the power supply are the parts that need shade — keep those boxes indoors from the day they land, not in a work truck or a metal shed. Monsoon dust and the rain that follows it are the other reason to bring everything inside.

Your kit is cut to a size, welded, and pre-lit before it ships, so the size has to be right the first time. In Phoenix that means three phone calls before you order, not after.
1. Ask what you're allowed
Start with the City of Phoenix planning and development department if your address is inside city limits, or Maricopa County if you are in an unincorporated pocket. The valley is a chain of separate cities that read as one place — Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Glendale and Chandler each enforce their own sign code, and Scottsdale's in particular is known for being strict. Ask for the maximum sign area and height for your zoning district, whether your sign counts as wall-mounted or freestanding, and what setback applies. Sign area is usually tied to your building frontage, so the answer is specific to your address — not to the block or to the business next door.
2. Ask your landlord
If you're in a plaza or center, the landlord's sign criteria sit on top of the city code and are often stricter. Cabinet depth, face color, letter height and mounting method are all commonly spelled out. Get the criteria sheet in writing before you pick a size — it is cheaper than rebuilding a cabinet that the center won't approve.
3. Ask about engineering and wiring
A freestanding, monument or pole sign in Maricopa County generally requires structural and foundation drawings sealed by an Arizona-licensed engineer. Count on the electrical being permitted on its own ticket rather than rolled into the sign permit. Confirm what your jurisdiction wants submitted before you lock in dimensions, since the cabinet is welded to the size you give us. Plan on a licensed electrician for the final hookup and inspection either way. We build the cabinet; the permit, the footing, the disconnect and the sign-off are local work done by local people.

Will the kit hold up to the summer heat out here?
Aluminum handles heat and does not rust, so the cabinet itself is built from the right material for the desert. We do not publish temperature ratings and we will not claim any. What we will say is to store the LEDs and the power supply indoors until install day and to give the electrician the details on your mounting location and power feed.
What is the best time of year to install one?
Whatever suits you, though most people working outdoors in the valley schedule the physical install for the cooler months or the early hours of a summer morning. Kits are prepared to order, so the practical move is to get your approved size in writing and start the quote well before the date you want to be up and lit.
Does Phoenix require a permit for a lighted sign?
Assume it does. Sign permits generally go through the City of Phoenix inside city limits or Maricopa County outside them, and expect a second permit covering the electrical side. If you are actually in Scottsdale, Tempe or Mesa, their code governs instead and the limits differ. Confirm the approved dimensions in writing before ordering — the cabinet is welded to that size.
Can I make the final power connection myself?
No — that one goes to a licensed electrician. These kits are not UL listed, and tying a lit cabinet into building power is inspected work under the local electrical code. You still do the bulk of the job: sections bolted square, cabinet mounted, faces set. Ask the electrician to quote the run at the same time you are pricing the sign.
